First I’ll admit that my prediction for this fixture was wrong and I’m glad I was.  I’m equally pleased that it was Aaron Ramsey that got the winner. It’s been a long road to recovery for the young Welshman. Today he started in place of Cesc Fabregas, who picked up an injury in training.

Both goalkeepers weren’t really tested in the first half; Arsenal having plenty of possession while Manchester Utd were looking to catch them out on the break. While Arsenal were angry with the officials at half-time, Manchester Utd were equally angry at full-time. Both teams were denied penalties that should have been given and both managers agreed on this.

Against Manchester United, Arsenal showed more discipline and better defensive play then most of the season. This is probably why Arsene Wenger has looked so frustrated this season as he knows the side is capable of results and performances like today.

There was one particular performance that summed it up. Andrey Arshavin come on at half-time for Samir Nasir and the Sky commentator hit the nail on the head. He said that Arshavin had made more tackles in this game than he had all season.

The result opens up the title race for Chelsea and makes their match against Manchester Utd even more interesting. What this result does for Arsenal is give the players confidence going into the last three games especially with Manchester City chasing.
